Walt Disney World Contemporary Resort
The Walt Disney World Contemporary resort is the icon of Disney's resorts; it was the first resort completed. And it was (at the time) space age in design. The monorail glides through the middle of the resort, providing easy access for guests. I was amazed the first time I saw the Walt Disney World Contemporary resort, and even to this day, I'm still amazed.
The Contemporary is the resort closest to the Magic Kingdom theme park. In fact, you can easily see the nightly Magic Kingdom fireworks display from the Contemporary!
As another treat, you can also see the Light Parade on Bay Lake every evening.
Is There Room at the Inn?
The Walt Disney World Contemporary resort has 1,008 rooms, split into three areas; the main tower and two adjoining garden wings. Of course it's the Tower section where the monorail passes through.
The rooms themselves are rather interesting. In something that's unusual for Disney resorts, most of the guest rooms at the Contemporary have daybeds included. Not all, of course; just most.
And most also have a private patio or balcony, so you can get some fresh air.
High-speed internet access is available for an extra fee, and it isn't cheap -- last time I stayed at Disney it was $19 for 24 hours. Oh, and it's not wireless, either. So you might want to forego bringing your laptop!
However, some rooms have desktop computers available, with free internet access. When you make your reservation, check and see if your room has one available.
The rooms at the Walt Disney World Disney Contemporary resort are roughly 345 square feet, and have either two double beds or one King-size bed. Occupancy is up to four people per room.
Suites are also available at the Contemporary. There are one bedroom suites, all the way up to the Presidential suite. There is also a concierge service at the Contemporary resort.
One of the cool options is to take a tower room and watch the Magic Kingdom fireworks at night from the comfort of your room! As you can expect, the tower rooms are considerably more expensive than standard rooms. But wouldn't it be wonderful?
Eating at the Walt Disney World Contemporary Resort
For on-premises eating, you have four options, from fast food to suit and tie.
The fast-food court at Disney's Contemporary Resort is called "Food and Fun Center" and is open 24 hours a day. You can pick up food on the run, like sandwiches and salads.
The moderate table service restaurat is called the "Concourse Steakhouse". You'll sit in a 90-foot tall atrium and watch the monorails glide by...which can make it a touch on the noisy side, but not too bad. Strangely enough, this restaurant is only open for breakfast and lunch - no dinner.
The signature dining option is called "California Grill" and think Pacific coast melting pot. From sushi to goat cheese pasta to flat breads and more. You will want to dress at least business casual to eat here, but you don't have to get fancy (unless you want to). The "California Grill" is very popular, so you will want to call at least a couple weeks ahead for reservations. Don't wait until you arrive at the Contemporary.
There is character dining at the Walt Disney World Contemporary resort. "Chef Mickey's" features visits from the Disney characters. Now there's no telling who will turn up on any given day, but I hear that Mickey himself sometimes shows up. Oh, and as to my favorite part of dinner (dessert), "Chef Mickey's" also has a sundae bar too.
Walt Disney World's Contemporary resort has two heated pools for your pleasure. The main pool is in the shape of mouse ears and includes a long, 240 foot slide! A spa is also available for soaking after a day at the Disney theme parks. Keep in mind the white sand beach, too!
So what else is there to do? Watercraft rental, jogging on a 1.1 mile trail and a fitness center are three options. Other include tennis, volleyball and an arcade.

The Contemporary: More Than Meets The Eye
There's more to this resort than it's sleek outside view. Or its Grand Canyon Concourse where monorails glide through.
This reports at Walt Disney World is also full of contemporary-feel artwork.
Pictured below is a very, very large example of what you'd see here. It's at least a few stories high.

Roaming Around Disney: Getting There From Here
Though it's really hard to miss, the monorail stops at the Contemporary resort, right in the atrium. You can go to the Magic Kingdom and EPCOT theme parks via the monorail.
As to the other parks, you get there on the complimentary Disney World bus transportation.
If you want to get to Disney's Wilderness Lodge, you can get a boat from the Contemporary marina -- it's only a 4 minute ride.
