Disney Character Dining
If you want a truely magical experience, try Disney character dining. Not only is it loads for fun for your own party, but it's a blast watching others!
I remember a little girl at one character dining who's eyes got big and round when Cinderella approached to say hi and have her picture taken.
And it's been the same at every Disney character dining expereince I've had,
Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner?
Character dining comes in all shapes and sizes and times. You can find characters available for pretty much any meal of the day.
Disney's character dining guarantees that there will be characters present, but won't often say in advance who it will be. For example, I was at a a character "princess" lunch and Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Jasmine and Ariel showed up.
So Disney tells you the kinds of characters, but not which specific ones.
As you can see, my husband got a big kick out of posing with Jasmine! (He's just a big kid at heart, what can I say.)
To my surprise, breakfasts are all the rage these days, so you might want to check out some extra information on Disney character breakfasts.
So What Happens at Disney World Character Dining?
When you arrive at the restaurant (you DID make a reservation, right?), you'll be seated at a table, where your server will greet you.
Now some of the character dining I've been to served a set meal "family style". Basically you get whatever's on the menu (usually quite a variety) placed on the table, and then everyone helps themselves to the food. In this case, it's normally all you can eat. Liberty Tree Tavern in the Magic Kingdom is an example.
I've also been to character dining that was part buffet (i.e. and amazing salad and soup buffet) and part off a menu. An example of this kind of Disney character dining is Akershus Royal Banquet Hall in EPCOT.
Then The Characters Arrive!
During your meal, the various Disney characters will stop by your table and pose for pictures, sign autographs or even give you a peck on the cheek! The characters arrive one at a time, so you aren't rushed. Everyone I've met at these meals has been wonderful and totally in character.
They make you feel like you're the reason they are stopping by to say hello, and to make you feel welcome.
And to make the magic last.

Make Reservations for Disney Character Dining!
Disney character dining is extremely popular, so don't count on getting walk-up seating. I was lucky enough to do so once at lunch, but more often than not I saw disappointed faces turned away because all the tables were full.
You can book a Disney Character Dining reservation up to six months in advance by calling 1-407-WDW-DINE.
Note: a few character meals may require a deposit, although most do not.
